As part of our non-profit ethic, we want to encourage success in the sci-tech area in New Zealand.
You will be well aware that there is not much infrastructure to support sci-tech entrepeneurs, start-ups, and established micro-businesses in New Zealand. Perhaps you are looking for premises which are too small and specialised to be of interest to commercial landlords and leasing agents. You can see that being camped out in a leaking old building with noise- or dust-generating neighbours that have nothing in common with you is not a great option. Or you are an entrepeneur who finds the idea of an "incubator" somewhat patronising.
For the right people, we can make some space available to share with us. It's ideal for synthetic chemistry, but any laboratory science or other tech/IT area will be a possibility. You would have flexible space in a nice, fully renovated building, with good views, in a reasonably quiet Gracefield (Lower Hutt) location, sharing reception, meeting room, kitchen etc with other like-minded people. The ADSL2+ internet connection is around 20 Mbit/s at the moment. There is plenty of on-site parking.
A tenant-friendly but businesslike lease will be offered to suit your needs. Rental will be astronomical on a per-square-metre basis, but eminently affordable for people requiring the smaller spaces suitable for starting out, or staying small by choice. You will be treated with respect and friendliness, and if you want it, we can pull together stuff like business advice, IP, legal and accounting services to help with the huge, and potentially frightening until you do it, to-do list you may have when starting out.
For a discussion in strict confidence, please send a message to Barry Dent.
[A note for anyone thinking this might be a great front for their illicit drugs lab: anyone wanting to do organic chemistry at this location will be asked to agree to a background check with Police Drug Intelligence.]
